Many of you reading this may have already entrusted my office to hold important documents (such as Titles, Deeds, Wills and Powers of Attorney) on your behalf in our safe custody facility. This is a free service which we offer to all of our clients.
I began holding documents for my clients in 1980 when I first started in practice on my own accord. At that time a handful of documents were contained in a small bright orange tin, later it was several tins. Today these documents are kept in a large compactus at Level 8, 28 University Avenue, Canberra City.
As part of the service I provide to clients, and to ensure that our records are current and well maintained, my staff and I undertake a full audit of the facility on a regular basis.
If I hold documents for you, I strongly recommend that you update my office with your contact details as necessary so that my records are current, and so that I am able to contact you or your family about the documents if necessary.
Also, please feel free to contact me or my staff to get a list (or copies) of documents I hold on your behalf.
If you have important documents such as Title Deeds or Wills at home, or in a place that is not secure, then I recommend that you contact me or my staff to see if these documents would be better held by Tetlow Legal. I am more than happy to provide my written receipt of these documents as well as copies for your records.
